Designed for Australian Tile Roof Profiles

TILEGUARD™ is designed to suit many common concrete and terracotta roof tiles. The Mesh Shield is positioned beneath the appropriate row of tiles and extends over the gutter, where Trimets secure it to a compatible external gutter edge.

This creates an inclined protective surface that helps keep larger debris above the gutter channel. Dry leaves may move from the surface under suitable wind conditions, but wet leaves, branches and matted debris can still remain and should be cleared when required.

High-Profile Tiles and Expansion Cuts

Some higher-profile or deeply shaped tiles require additional care during installation. Carefully positioned expansion cuts may be needed so the Mesh Shield follows the tile profile without excessive bunching, tension or distortion.

Always refer to the current TILEGUARD™ installation guide before cutting the mesh. Poorly positioned cuts can create unnecessary gaps or affect the finished appearance.

How Leaf Stopper Mesh Shield Works

Mesh Shield forms the protective surface across the gutter. It helps reduce leaves, twigs and larger debris entering the drainage channel while allowing rainwater to pass through the mesh apertures.

The appropriate Mesh Shield depends on the debris surrounding your property, the preferred material strength and any applicable bushfire construction requirements.

Standard Mesh

• Aperture: 3.5mm × 3.5mm
• Aluminium thickness: 0.55mm
• Best suited to: General leaves, twigs and larger debris
• Material: Non-combustible aluminium

Premium Mesh

• Aperture: 3.5mm × 3.5mm
• Aluminium thickness: 0.80mm
• Best suited to: Installations where a thicker, stronger mesh is preferred
• Material: Non-combustible aluminium

Premium Mesh has the same aperture as Standard Mesh but uses aluminium that is approximately 46% thicker. It is not a finer-aperture product.

Fine Mesh

• Aperture: 1.8mm × 1.8mm woven mesh
• Aluminium thickness: 0.40mm
• Best suited to: Pine needles, fine seeds and smaller leaf matter
• Material: Non-combustible aluminium
• Bushfire applications: The BAL-rated Mesh Shield option within the Leaf Stopper range

Where Fine Mesh is intended to perform an ember-guard function, confirm the applicable material, aperture and installation requirements with your builder, building certifier or bushfire consultant. Selecting Fine Mesh alone does not establish whole-building BAL compliance.

TILEGUARD™ gutter-edge kits are designed to protect compatible external gutters beneath tiled roofs.

• Colour-matched hexagonal-head screws
• One free socket with each total purchase for use with the supplied hexagonal-head screws

The wider 500mm Mesh Shield provides material to extend beneath the appropriate row of tiles and across the gutter opening.

What Comes in a TILEGUARD™ Valley Kit?

TILEGUARD™ valley kits are supplied separately for compatible tiled-roof valleys.

• 750mm-wide aluminium Mesh Shield in your selected mesh type and kit length
• Trimets are not required for the valley installation.
• Screws are not required for the standard valley installation.

The 750mm width provides additional coverage across the valley and beneath the adjoining tiles.

Roof valleys can carry concentrated rainwater and may contain complex flashing or roof junctions. Existing leaks, damaged valleys or unusual configurations should be assessed by a roofing professional before gutter guard is installed.

Cleaning gutters on a tiled roof can involve repeated ladder use, working close to fragile roof edges and moving around surfaces that may become slippery or unstable.

By helping reduce leaves, twigs and larger organic material entering the gutter, the system may reduce the load placed on downstream screens and filters.

It does not replace:

• Tank inlet screens
• Appropriate filtration
• Tank maintenance
• Water-quality treatment required for the intended use

No Gutter Guard Is Maintenance-Free

TILEGUARD™ is designed to reduce gutter maintenance—not eliminate it.

Fine dust, pollen, silt and small particles may pass through the Mesh Shield and settle inside the gutter. Leaves and branches may also remain on the surface, particularly when wet or caught around roof features.

Periodic inspection remains important to check:

• The surface of the Mesh Shield
• Downpipe entrances
• Gutter corners and ends
• Roof valleys
• Hip and ridge terminations
• Fine sediment inside the gutter
• Damage following storms or other roof work

The appropriate inspection frequency depends on surrounding vegetation, weather, roof design and local conditions.

Plan Future Access with EasyAc®

You may not need to access your gutter or downpipe for years. However, including a removable access point during the original installation means it is already available when an inspection or cleaning task eventually arises.

The EasyAc® range provides screw-free local access through the Mesh Shield without requiring a long section of TILEGUARD™ to be removed.

Steel EasyAc®

• The original EasyAc® model introduced in 2010
• Manufactured from steel
• Uses a louvered lid that slides onto the base plate from one end

EasyAc20®

• Released in 2025
• Longer than the original Steel EasyAc®
• Manufactured from aluminium
• Available in a range of colours
• The lid is positioned beside the slotted tabs and pushed sideways into place

Both models use patented internal tabs that are pushed underneath the Mesh Shield to hold the base plate in place. The removable lid does not rely on screws, so a screwdriver is not required each time it is removed or replaced.

EasyAc® may provide useful access near selected downpipe outlets, corners and other maintenance points. It cannot automatically clear a blockage further down the downpipe or within underground stormwater infrastructure.

TILEGUARD™ Installation Instructions

TILEGUARD™ can be installed by capable DIY customers on suitable, safely accessible tiled roofs. Professional installation is recommended where the building is high, steep, complex or difficult to access.

Take particular care when lifting or working around roof tiles. Older tiles can be brittle, and walking on a tiled roof can cause cracking if weight is placed incorrectly.

Always use appropriate height-safety equipment and follow the current TILEGUARD™ installation instructions.

Silicone Requirements

Silicone is not included with the TILEGUARD™ kit.

A suitable silicone product will be required when securing Mesh Shield around hip corners or at the upper ends of ridge sections, as shown in the current installation instructions.

Confirm that the selected sealant is suitable for the roof materials, exposure conditions and intended application.

Can TILEGUARD™ be used on both concrete and terracotta tiles?

How is TILEGUARD™ secured to the roof?

The Mesh Shield is positioned beneath the appropriate row of tiles. At the outer gutter edge, Trimets and colour-matched screws secure the mesh to a compatible external gutter.

Does TILEGUARD™ use tile clips?

The standard TILEGUARD™ installation uses the roof tiles to retain the upper section of Mesh Shield and Trimets at the gutter edge. Do not assume that separate tile clips are included unless they are specifically identified with the selected product.

What is included in the gutter-edge kit?

The gutter-edge kit includes 500mm-wide Mesh Shield, Trimets and colour-matched hexagonal-head screws in quantities appropriate to the selected kit.

What is included in the valley kit?

The valley kit includes a 750mm-wide roll of Mesh Shield in the selected mesh type and kit length. Trimets and screws are not required for the standard valley installation.

Why is the valley Mesh Shield wider?

The 750mm Mesh Shield provides additional material to span the valley and extend beneath the adjoining roof tiles.

Do I receive a socket with my order?

Yes. One free socket is supplied with each total purchase for use with the supplied hexagonal-head screws.

Is silicone included?

No. Silicone is not included. A suitable silicone will be required at specified hip corners and upper ridge terminations, as shown in the installation guide.

Can I install TILEGUARD™ myself?

Capable DIY customers may install TILEGUARD™ on a straightforward and safely accessible roof. Professional installation is recommended for high, steep, complex or difficult-to-access roofs.

Can roof tiles break during installation?

Roof tiles can crack if they are old, brittle or stepped on incorrectly. Work carefully, use appropriate roof-access methods and keep suitable replacement tiles available where necessary.

How much TILEGUARD™ do I need?

Measure the total linear length of the external gutters and valleys you want to protect. Measure separate runs individually and allow for joins, corners and the installation details shown in the current instructions.

Does TILEGUARD™ completely stop gutter cleaning?

No. TILEGUARD™ helps reduce larger debris entering the gutter, but fine sediment and surface debris may still require periodic inspection and cleaning.

Can I flush the gutter through Mesh Shield?

Water may be directed through the Mesh Shield to help move loose fine sediment. For more direct local access, consider installing Steel EasyAc® or EasyAc20® during the original installation.

Is TILEGUARD™ suitable for properties with nearby trees?

Yes. TILEGUARD™ is commonly selected for properties affected by leaves, twigs, bark and other tree debris. Select Standard, Premium or Fine Mesh according to the surrounding debris.

Which mesh should I choose for pine needles?

Fine Mesh is generally the most appropriate Leaf Stopper option for pine needles, fine seeds and smaller leaf matter because it has a 1.8mm × 1.8mm woven aperture.

Is TILEGUARD™ suitable for bushfire-prone properties?

All Leaf Stopper Mesh Shield options are made from non-combustible aluminium. Fine Mesh is the BAL-rated option within the range. Confirm the exact gutter-guard and ember-protection requirements for your property with the appropriate building or bushfire professional.

Does TILEGUARD™ stop birds and pests?

A correctly installed system may help reduce access around the protected tile and gutter edge. It cannot guarantee complete bird or vermin exclusion throughout the roof or building.

Will TILEGUARD™ prevent every gutter blockage or overflow?

No gutter guard can guarantee this. Drainage performance also depends on gutter fall, gutter capacity, downpipe condition, rainfall intensity, overflow provisions and downstream stormwater infrastructure.

Can TILEGUARD™ repair a leaking or damaged tiled roof?

No. Broken tiles, failed flashings, leaking valleys, incorrect gutter fall and blocked downpipes should be addressed before installing the gutter guard.

Can I still inspect my gutters after installation?

Yes. The gutter, valleys and Mesh Shield should remain part of your periodic roof inspection. Adding an EasyAc® access panel can provide removable local access without taking out a long section of mesh.

Is EasyAc® included in the TILEGUARD™ kit?

No. Steel EasyAc® and EasyAc20® are optional access products sold separately.
